[Twitter] Donald Trump loses hundreds of thousands of followers

The site gets rid of accounts that he believes are fraudulent. All major accounts in terms of subscribers have lost a large number of them.

President Donald Trump has already lost at least 300,000 subscribers to his Twitter account.

Accounts are locked if Twitter detects unusual behavior such as an explosion of activity after months of inactivity.

The new policy could be substantial for some Twitter users, as followers serve as a point of sale when celebrities and social media influencers negotiate deals with advertisers. For other users, the number of followers is a point of pride.

The purge affects all major accounts, and it is not yet clear whether Mr. Trump is hit differently than average. Katy Perry, whose Twitter account has the most subscribers, lost more than 2.8 million followers on Thursday, down 2.6% from yesterday.
